Dear Bridges to Home Ministry Friends:
The basic meaning of the word holiness is to be "set apart" or "dedicated" to God. "I will be your God, and you will be my people," says Yahweh (Lev. 26:12; Heb. 8:10). A simple definition of holiness might be people, places, and things set aside for the God's purpose. God is holy to the supreme degree. Holiness for his creation means a unique relationship that God desires with his people. This relationship has moral aspects to it, but before we are called to be good, we are called to be holy, to be set apart for God.
So how does this apply to us? Taking a line from Dynamic Catholic "Most of the time holiness is just about doing the ordinary things of everyday life really well." Performing holy moments throughout our day can change the world one act at a time when our world is in most need of change. These simple things can include holding the door for someone, smiling and greeting people, paying for the person behind you in the drive-thru, helping your neighbor with myriad good deeds, visiting a senior home, welcoming a stranger, listening to someone who needs you to listen, and many more that I am sure you can think of. It is about living life daily with Christ in mind always.
Ordinary things for Bridges to Home can include a move on Saturday morning. Claude, a veteran of 4 years in the Marine Corps, was the beneficiary of the services of the ministry on Saturday August 17th. Although we spoke on the phone about all of the items we would be bringing to him, when the move was actually in progress, he was more and more amazed by the team and the number of trips up and down the stairs we all made unloading the items into his apartment. In the picture below, he had to sit to take it all in. He said he is finally feeling like he is home.
Pam and two anonymous donors sponsored all of the items purchased for Claude. Thank you for your continuing support of the people served by this ministry. It is our great honor and pleasure to be stewards of the funds provided by the Holy Spirit through you.
Dear heavenly Father, You are a holy God and I desire to be holy too...set apart unto You, and living my life in a manner that is worthy of You and pleasing to You. Search my heart I pray, and root out all that is not pleasing to you, for I know that only the one that has clean hands and a pure heart may stand in Your presence. Purify my heart, cleanse my inner thoughts, for I desire to live in holiness of heart. I ask that in Your grace You would cleanse and purify me that I may live in true holiness all the days of my life, clothed in Christ’s righteousness, and walking in godly love. This I ask in Jesus name, Amen.
Mary
