Dear Bridges to Home Ministry Friends:
Have you ever wanted to do something in your life, but have convinced yourself you can’t? The reasons abound--you aren't smart enough, you aren't talented enough, you aren't strong enough, you are afraid of failure, etc. Sure, something might happen that results in an outcome different than we pictured, but could that be God turning our expectations into His will? Life is not an easy road and there are few guarantees, but we pursue things and succeed in the face of this reality every day. The real failure might be in not trying. To trust God means we believe His word and hope in His promises even when everything around us tell us not to.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. Margaret Mead
On September 28th, we were honored to meet Alton in his home in Hemet. He was brought up in an Army family but he was in the Navy for 13 years, serving as a chef/cook. He has two sons who are pursuing careers in the service as well. On October 5th, the team responded to Wilton's call for assistance, which took us to Victorville. We did not meet Wilton as he was too ill to participate in the move, but his wife, Samantha was a joy to meet. She shared with us that Wilton has many difficult days but is receiving care from the VA after his many years of service in the Navy. The Ontario Elks Lodge #1419 graciously and generously donated funds that supported both of these moves. Thank you for your generosity and compassion towards the veterans we serve.
Please scroll through the gallery below and enjoy pictures from the moves in Hemet for Alton and in Victorville for Wilton.
We have noticed that our move-in team volunteers are fewer and fewer over the last several months. We greatly appreciate the same someones who volunteer week after week, but I truly encourage those of you who have not accompanied us on a move to do so. Your life will be changed forever, and your presence on the move will change others' lives.
There are many roles on a move-in team. There are heavy and light lifters, there are arrangers of kitchen items, there are bed makers and shower curtain hangers and picture hangers and many roles in between. You can come along to encourage the team and give out water when needed or help serve lunch. Volunteering does not obligate you to any future commitment. If you hear that small voice telling you it's time, or if you have been on moves and think we have enough people and don't need you, please respond to my email. I am happy to help calm any doubts and answer your questions.
Please see the email for dteails on the move scheduled for next Saturday, October 12th.
When you inspire one person you have already changed the world. Sabina Nor
